Western Darling Downs & Maranoa - QLD

Territory Manager:
Kate Reardon
2008 has announced itself with regular rainfall, unseasonal cool temperatures & in some cases, major flooding.
The end of 2007 saw mass plantings of sorghum, corn & sunflowers throughout Queensland, causing us to run out of some key varieties.
These later crops are now flourishing with regular rainfall & mid summer temperatures. Early crops are now being harvested and results have been fantastic.
It has however been a testing time for farmers trying to harvest with rain interruptions, limited trucks to cart off farm and local storages struggling to keep up with deliveries.
On a positive note, the price is holding at a reasonable level allowing growers to capitalise on a good season.
Most of our farm trials are off, with some very good results. Keep an eye out in the mail over the next few months for the trials booklet with all the results from this year’s summer season.
With good, regular rainfall farms are now set up for a good winter plant.
Last year Pacific Seeds purchased a majority share in LongReach Plant Breeders. This is a very exciting venture for Pacific Seeds as it ensures us a steady stream of new wheat lines. This season we have three of these lines available, LongReach Lincoln, LongReach Dakota and LongReach Crusader. These three varieties add to our already impressive portfolio of varieties which includes: EGA Gregory, EGA Wylie, EGA Burke and EGA Wills.
If you would like further information on any of these please contact me or your local reseller.
Finally I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all my growers out there. This year has been a testing one and I appreciate the support you have all shown throughout the season. Your knowledge and help have been invaluable in helping me perform my job better each year.
All the best for the season ahead.
