Good silage like money in the bank

In January he cut 43 round bales of silage from just 5ha or approximately 6t DM/ha.  A second cut in March produced 66 bales. The crops were sown at approximately 18-20kg/ha in late November after pasture silage was taken off the paddocks. It was an effective way to maximize the amount of feed produced from the irrigated paddocks using Pacific BMR after short term ryegrass.

The paddocks are now going to be grazed with Simon estimating they will produce at least 12 days of grazing. "It's a pretty good result considering we had a very rocky start to the season with the cool weather," he commented.

Pacific BMR produces a high quality hay with higher digestability owing to its lower lignin content. It has been shown that a dairy cow fed Pacific BMR can gain enough extra energy a day to produced an extra two litres of milk per day.
