Excellent support for local show crop competitions

02 April 2004: Close to $5000 worth of prizes and trophies were presented at the Pittsworth show crop competition on Saturday, March 6. Pittsworth Show Society President, Robin Krieg said the excellent support from both sponsors and entrants were a highlight of this year's show.

Another boost to the show was provided by way of a special award. Mr Krieg said the award was presented to D C Saal Pty Ltd for not only winning the Pittsworth Show Wheat section, but also for taking out the State championship which is conducted by the RASQ. Steward in charge of the Grain Competitions, Paul Fuhlbohm said the results exceeded expectations.

With a much better season, the standard for the grain sorghum entries were equal to any that judge, John Rossler had seen. Black and Co were winners of the grain sorghum with their crop of MR-Bounty. They also won the barley section.

Cotton crops were also of a high standard, with David and Pauline Scott's irrigated conventional entry winning the Perry Family Shield for the Champion Cotton Crop. Other cotton winners were Russell and Jenny Clapham for Irrigated Inguard - Bollgard, with Kerry and Julie Connley the winners of the rain grown class.

Mr Krieg said the 30 plus sponsors who support this important part of the Pittsworth Show highlight the success of the competition. "The committee is very appreciative of their generosity."
