Yabbie races lend hand to charity Melbourne Cup luncheons across E.I affected areas needed changes of direction as local races were cancelled. Pacific Seeds’ head office at Toowoomba got into the action, managing to raise funds for The Friends of Jimmy Bazley Neuroblastoma Research Foundation in the process. This year, the company held a yabbie race rather than an equine focus as has occurred in the past. According to organizers, sourcing the yabbies for the race created its own problems, with many attempts at catching them leading to disappointment. In the end a solution was found by hiring racers from a local pet shop. One of the key aims of the day was to provide staff a chance to let their hair down, enjoy a good lunch and ofcourse, as with any race day allow the ladies put on their glad rags for the day. Over $150 was donated to charity.
